ProBanTM—The Simple End to Mold Growth


Menomonie, WI, January 20, 2006— Just released is Poly-Wall’s exciting new patent-pending ProBan additive —good news to manufacturers, contractors, and building owners throughout the country as they look for solutions to mold.

While avoidance and remediation of mold are major concerns in the construction industry, available solutions have been very limited. The ideal of disinfecting buildings before they are closed up is a complex problem due to the variety of construction materials, the construction process, and regulatory approval of products.

To address the problem of mold, Poly-Wall developed ProBan, an additive designed to inhibit mold. Proban works by breaching the cell walls of mold spores and preventing them from multiplying, even when food source, temperature and moisture conditions are ideal for growth.

"All one has to do is coat the inside of a basement wall, cavity wall, single wythe, or any intended substrates, with ProBan-treated material," explains Ted DeZurik, President of Poly-Wall, "it will inhibit the growth of mold. Given the exposure manufacturers and builders have to liabilities concerning mold, ProBan gives them a powerful tool to reduce the risk of mold problems."

The construction industry commonly uses air barriers to prevent airflow in buildings and reduce heating costs. But this design has increased the risk of mold growth, especially in any barrier or wall covering that is biodegradable. In many "tight" buildings, mold growth actually can actually eat away the barrier and wall material.

Poly-Wall has very effective coatings for this problem, " adds DeZurik. " By combining ProBan with PolyWall's air barrier membrane products, mold growth on the wall and in the cavity can be inhibited."
